![]() About The Department of Sports Medicine The Certified Athletics Trainer (ATC) is a highly educated and skilled health care professional. In cooperation with physicians and other allied health personnel, the athletics trainer functions as an integral member of the health care team to provide the highest level of health care for The University of Akron's student-athletes ATCs are medical experts in preventing, recognizing, managing and rehabilitating injuries that result from physical activity. Athletics trainers can help you avoid injuries and disruption of normal daily life; if you're injured, they can get you on the mend and keep you on the move. The ATC is the point-person for all medical treatment of student-athletes at the University of Akron. The Department of Sports Medicine currently staffs five full-time athletics trainers and five graduate assistant athletics trainers that oversee the day-to-day care of the Zips' 400 student-athletes. The staff's wide range of experience and education combines to form one of the finest medical staffs in NCAA athletics. |
