About The Akron Spirit Group The University of Akron’s spirit squads, which consist of the nationally-ranked cheerleading squad, dance team, and everyone’s favorite mascot, Zippy, are vital to the success of Zips athletics.The cheerleaders’ and dance team primary mission is to interact with the crowd to generate enthusiasm and spirit during the game. Both groups also serve as ambassadors for the University, including the athletics department, at various functions, such as fundraisers and charitable events. Working in tandem with Zippy and the band, the cheerleaders and dance team work diligently at each game to keep the crowd at a fever pitch throughout each UA contest. |
