AKRON, Ohio - The UA swimming and diving team returns to action tomorrow, embarking on a
two-meet road trip to take on Ohio and Miami (Ohio) this weekend to open
Mid-American Conference competition.
Akron looks to build upon the success and experience gained at the Tom Stubbs Relays, translating wins into
points in the first scored events of the season. Two weeks ago, the Zips opened the
season at the Tom Stubbs Relays, picking up an impressive six wins in the
11-event meet, where the Zips also shattered three Bowling Green meet records.
The Zips first travel to Athens, Ohio on Friday, Oct. 30 to take on the Ohio
Bobcats at 5:00 p.m. Akron defeated Ohio in last year's season opener in Ocasek
Natatorium, outscoring the Bobcats, 163-136 to claim the victory. The Bobcats
closed out the season as the 2008-09 Mid-American Conference Championship
runner ups. The meet will serve as the first official contest for the Bobcats
who held their Green and White Intrasquad meet last week.
On Saturday, Oct. 31 Akron will head to Oxford, Ohio to take on the 2009 MAC
Champions, Miami (Ohio). Last season, Akron dropped a tough 189-111 decision
against the Redhawks at Ocasek Natatorium. Miami is currently 1-2 on the season
after defeating Xavier (147.5-114.5) while dropping meets against Purdue (181.5-116.5)
and Louisville (164-130). The meet is slated to start at 1:00 p.m.
Recaps and statistics will be available on gozips.com
following both meets.
