Quoting Akron Head Coach Keith Dambrot Opening Statement: "We did the same things we have always done, we just didn’t play well. We ran uphill all night, and we tried, but we just didn’t have it. You just cannot shoot that poorly and win. When you let teams like Eastern Michigan hang around and gain confidence, it’s a team that we have handled very easily in the past, with the same group of players. We just didn’t do a very good job in general, and we have to rally ourselves. This team has shown to be inconsistent, at times we play well and then we have a bad game, we have to ride ourselves and that’s a toughness issue. We played good enough defensively to win, but we can’t play how we did offensively to win." On tonight's mistakes: "When you miss as many open shots as we did you're going to have issues, and (Nikola Cvetinovic) had five turnovers, you just can't have big guys making all these mistakes. He tried hard and fought hard but in the end it didn’t work out." On Eastern Michigan: "We let Jay Higgins get 17 points and Antonio Green get 14 points, you can’t win when those guys get that many points. (Jay Higgins) made the big three in the corner in which we did a poor job of defending, and he never laid down the whole game. When you let him shoot the 3 you have issues." |
