AKRON, Ohio – The University of Akron men's soccer team will host its annual instructional camp this summer, once again providing participants the opportunity to develop their skills under the guidance of the coaching staff and players of last year's record-breaking NCAA finalist season.
This year, we are excited to announce the Akron Soccer Camp will be split into five sessions beginning in June and continuing through July. Each session is specifically designed for different levels of play; from an elite player looking to play in college to a young player who is just learning the basics of the game. The Zips coaching staff and current players will personally provide instruction for each Day Camp with other top college coaches joining them for the Residential Camp. DATES REGISTRATION TRADITION Regarded as one of the top programs in the nation, Akron has made 24 NCAA Tournament appearances, including eight of the last nine seasons. The program has produced 42 All-America selections, with nine Zips being named All-Americans over the last five years. Since joining the Mid-American Conference in 1993, the Zips have dominated the league with twelve regular-season titles and seven MAC Tournament championships. Akron has also been well represented on the All-MAC squads with 109 selections, including a league record, 74 first team picks. In 2009, Akron placed eight players on the All-MAC first team, other awards included MAC Player of the Year Teal Bunbury, MAC Newcomer of the Year Zarek Valentin and MAC Coach of the Year Caleb Porter. In addition, Teal Bunbury was named the National Player of The Year by Soccer America and the 2009 recipient of the MAC Hermann National Player of the Year. Considered an elite program on the national level, the Zips have spent time in the national rankings each of the last seven seasons and were the first team in Mid-American Conference history in any sport to achieve a No.1 national ranking when they held the top spot for four weeks in 2005. The 2009 season was one to remember again as Akron held the #1 spot in the polls for nine consecutive weeks, won both the MAC regular season and tournament championships on the way to being the #1 seed in The NCAA Tournament and an appearance in the National Championship game, falling to Virginia in penalty kicks. Akron tied an NCAA record winning 23 consecutive games on the way to finishing the season 23-1-1. CONTACT Akron Soccer Camp - Athletic Field House Oliver Slawson |
