Senior forward Nate Linhart scored 19 points in UA's decisive victory at Fairleigh Dickinson.

HACKENSACK, N.J.Nate Linhart led the University of Akron men's basketball team with a career-high-tying 19 points as the Zips topped Fairleigh Dickinson 85-41 on Sunday in a Legends Classic match-up at Stratis Arena.

Linhart, who was one of three Akron (4-2) players to score in double figures, converted 6-of-11 field goals, was 4-for-4 from the free throw line, grabbed a game-high-tying seven rebounds and had a career-high-tying four steals. Anthony "Humpty" Hitchens, who started in his third-straight game, tallied a career best in points for the second time in 24 hours. He finished with 12 points off a 5-of-8 shooting performance after scoring 10 points in UA's loss to Eastern Kentucky on Saturday.

Brett McKnight had 12 points for the Zips, making 5-of-10 attempts from the floor. Jimmy Conyers, who logged his first start of the season, tied Linhart with seven rebounds and also had a career-high two blocked shots. Darryl Roberts, who started for the second-consecutive game, and Ronnie Steward both had a game best four assists and neither committed a turnover. The Zips used 13 players, with 11 of those scoring at least two points or grabbing at least one rebound.

Fairleigh Dickinson (0-5) enjoyed its only lead of the contest at 2-0 in the opening minute and Akron went on to lead by as much as 24 in the first period. The Zips went into the locker room ahead 43-23.

UA put the game further out of reach with a 19-2 start to the second period, to make it 62-25 with 11:45 remaining – its biggest lead in the contest at that point. The UA lead was at 40 points or higher for the final 8:08 and the final 44-point margin was the team's largest of the night.

For the game, UA shot 47.1 percent (32-of-68) from the field, 45.5 percent (10-of-22) from 3-point range and 84.6 percent (11-of-13) from the line. FDU managed 22.7 percent (10-of-44) from the field and converted 74.1 percent (20-of-27) from the charity stripe. The Knights were held to 20.8 percent (5-of-24) shooting from the floor in the first half.

Akron owned a heavy advantage in several of the specialty stats categories – leading 28-18 in points in the paint, 23-11 in points off of turnovers and 42-18 in bench scoring. The Zips won the battle of the glass, 42-31, and turned the ball over 10 times compared to 22 by their opponent.

Akron travels to Niagara on Dec. 3 for a 7 p.m. EST match-up and returns home to Rhodes Arena to face Dayton on Dec. 6 at 7 p.m.
