AKRON, Ohio – On a sunny day in front of 425 fans, the University of Akron softball team (28-21, 9-9 MAC) fell 6-1 to the Miami RedHawks Saturday at Lee R. Jackson Field. The RedHawks started the offensive action early when they put two runners on in each of the first three innings taking advantage of the runners in the second and third. In the second inning, four hits spurred the action starting when the lead off hitters posted back-to-back singles. A fielder's choice put runners at first and third and a single down the left field line drove in the first run (0-1). The fourth MU hit of the inning scored the base runners for the quick 3-0 lead. Miami added another in the third after two walks, a single and a sacrifice fly scored the runner at third. (4-1). Miami added its final runs of the day in the fifth inning off of two hits. A walk and a double down the right field line put two runners on and they both scored off a RBI single for 6-1 lead. The Zips only run of the contest came off an error in the bottom of the second inning. Sophomore Alex Feltes would lead off with single and
advance to second on a sacrifice bunt by junior Krista Hansen. Feltes put Akron on
the board when she scored after senior Amber Lowe reached on a fielding error by the MU first baseman. Sophomore Heather Bauer (15-6) picked up the loss for Akron, her first loss on the mound since March 27 against Northern Illinois. The Zips will conclude the weekend homestand Sunday with another single game against Miami. The first pitch is set for 1:00 p.m. Live scoring will be available here.
