YPSILANTI, Mich. – Akron (7-1, 0-1 MAC) dropped its Mid-American Conference opener at Eastern Michigan (4-2-2, 1-0 MAC) by a score of 3-0 Friday afternoon at Scicluna Field. Akron continues its MAC road swing at Central Michigan on Sunday.

Eastern Michigan took a 2-0 lead in the first half thanks to a pair of goals from Deana Kitner. Kitner scored what would be the game winner in the fifth minute, scoring from the right side approximately five yards out. Just 16 minutes later she was on the board again as she beat the Akron defense in the box, blasting a shot from the six-yard area.

The teams were evenly matched in shot attempts, with the Zips taking 14 shots, five of which were on goal. The Eagles had 13 shots, but nine of those were on target as UA keeper Krystin Wilson recorded six saves in the loss. Donna Swift led the Akron attack with four shot attempts off the bench.

The Eagles put the game out of reach just over two minutes into the second half as Ashley Upton connected on a breakaway goal with the assist coming from Katie Zundel.
