as a Freshman (2009): Started the final seven games of the season following a season-ending injury to Matt Rodgers ... made his UA debut in the second half against Ohio (Oct. 10) at InfoCision Stadium–Summa Field ... led the Zips to a 21-17 victory over Buffalo (Oct. 17) in his first career start ... became just the fourth true freshman to start at quarterback in the history of the Akron program ... connected on 17-of-34 pass attempts for 200 yards and two interceptions against the Bulls ... recorded his first touchdown pass in a Zips' uniform the following week, hooking up with Andre Jones on an 11-yard post route in a 28-14 defeat at Syracuse (Oct. 24) ... broke the 200-yard barrier for the first time in a 28-20 win against Kent State (Nov. 7) ... connected on 19-of-34 passes for 261 yards and two touchdowns against the Golden Flashes ... topped the 200-yard mark again in his best performance of the season, connecting on 22 of 32 pass attempts and two touchdowns while throwing for 259 yards in a losing effort at Bowling Green (Nov. 20).
