AKRON, Ohio – The Blue squad continued their winning ways and broke out the bats in a big way en route to 8-1 victory over the Gold squad at Lee Jackson Field this afternoon. Scott Foster earned the win for the Blue squad surrendering just one run while striking out five batters and James Podgorney was credited with the save.

The Gold squad, who suffered at the plate managing just 7 hits in 27 plate appearances, scored their lone run in the second inning. Brian Kordal led off the inning with a single to center field before advancing on a bunt single to third by Phil Bednar. Jason Corzine then grounded into a double play bringing Keene Marstrell to the plate. Marstrell would drive a single out to center field to plate Kordal. Foster ended the inning by getting Ivory Alexander to pop out to third basemen Ryan Frazee.

The Blue offense ignited as they batted through the order atop the third to generate five runs and claim a lead they wouldn't surrender. Catcher Dan Burant led off the inning with a double to left field and second basemen Kurt Boyer trailed him with a walk. With runners on first and second base, junior Kevin Haas bunted to load the bases. After a Lawrence Penn strikeout, Matt Roberts reached first on a Gold error, allowing Burant and Boyer to score. Burant later belted a three run double to the outfield scoring Roberts, Kyle Hallett and Brandon White increasing the score 5-1.

Blue added runs in the fourth inning when Boyer scored on a bases loaded walk issued by freshmen pitcher Alex Loftin. Roberts would then score on a wild pitch thrown by Benjamin Danzinger who came on in relief. In top of the sixth inning, Roberts reached on an error by Gold second basemen Phil Bednar then advanced to second on a dead ball before scoring off a Ryan Frazee knock to center, which capped the score at 8 and sealed the victory for Blue.
