Team Notes:

• Opening a campaign at home for the second-straight season, Akron dropped its first home opener since a 78-68 defeat by 25th-ranked Western Kentucky on Dec. 5, 2001.

• Despite the loss, the Zips are 2-1 versus the Governor's under sixth-year head coach Keith Dambrot – posting a 64-55 win at Austin Peay on Dec. 15, 2007 and a 74-57 victory in Rhodes Arena on Feb. 17, 2006 as part of the ESPN BracketBusters event.

• Despite the loss, UA is 64-9 at home under sixth-year head coach Keith Dambrot and has won 55 of its last 63 contests at Rhodes Arena.

• Akron received 45 of its 77 total points from its bench. In the first half, Zip reserves outscored Governor reserves 22-5.

• Prior to the start of today's game, members of last season's Mid-American Conference Tournament championship squad were presented with their championship rings.

Player Notes:

• Freshman center Zeke Marshall finished with a double-double in his first collegiate outing, scoring 10 points and grabbing a game-high 12 rebounds. The 7-footer also had two blocked shots, one assist and one personal foul in 24 minutes as a reserve. He finished 5-for-9 from the field.

• Junior guard Steve McNees led UA offensively with 14 points (3-for-7 field goals, 6-for-6 free throws). He logged 21 minutes off the bench, one of four UA reserves to play double-figure minutes.

• Senior forward Tim Carroll made his first career start. The non-scholarship player logged three minutes and recorded no statistics.

• Akron called on the services of 11 players, with eight of those recording double-figure minutes. Senior guard Darryl Roberts played a team-high 32 minutes.
