OXFORD, Ohio – Miami (Ohio) used a two goal first half to get a 2-0 decision over the University of Akron women's soccer team on Friday in a Mid-American Conference match at Miami Soccer Field. The loss dropped the Zips to 2-5-0 against league competition and 7-7-0 overall.

Miami (4-9-1, 3-4-0) found the net in the 20th and 30th minute, with Sarah Lund scoring what would prove to be the eventual gamewinner and Jackie Hardek putting in the insurance goal.

The game offered its share of offensive action as the RedHawks took 20 shots and eight shots on goal, while the Zips were credited with 19 and nine, respectively.  Akron junior forward Britni Back led all players with eight shots, four of which were on goal (also led all players).

UA called on both of its goalkeepers. Freshman Jenn Wolbert started the contest and made three saves in 65 minutes of work, while junior Katie Davis had two stops in 24 minutes. Wolbert was credited with the loss. MU goalkeeper Krista Pace earned nine saves, playing all 90 minutes.

"I am proud of the team and their effort," Akron head coach Chris Pfau said. "We have a lot of injuries right now and a lot of players playing out of position. We worked hard and created some good opportunities. If we can eliminate some early mistakes, we will give ourselves chances to win some of these games."

Akron plays at Ball State on Sunday at 1 p.m. EDT.
