Softball Rounds Out 2010 Class With Local Prospect

Akron, Ohio-The University of Akron head softball coach, Julie Jones, announced Wednesday that local standout, Caitlin Ambrose, has signed a national letter of intent to play for the Zips in 2009-10.

"To round out our 2010 class, we have added Caitlin who is a very good athlete with the ability to play multiple positions," said Jones. "She is strong, has a great arm and will prove to be a solid contributor throughout her career as a Zip.

"Caitlin is athletic, a great student and has great leadership potential," adds Jones.

A well-rounded athlete hailing from Chardon, Ohio, Ambrose posses the ability to be dominant on both sides of the ball. A consistent hitter, Ambrose batted a .378 as a freshman, .371 as a sophomore and a .364 in 2008. To date, she has amassed 87 hits, including seven home runs, and 64 RBI during her prep career.

Named to the first team All-Northcoast League three times, Ambrose was also honored with the Lake County Coaches Award as a freshman and sophomore.

The Zips will start their 2009 season at the Capital City Tournament, Feb. 7-8, in Montgomery, Ala.
