Zips Tip Off Basketball Season with Successful Halloween Hoops Event

 AKRON, Ohio – On Saturday, Oct. 29, the Akron men's and women's basketball teams hosted their annual Halloween Hoops event inside James A. Rhodes Arena to kick off the 2011-12 season.

Several hundred fans and costume-clad children attended the event, which featured numerous activities, games and free candy.

Highlighting the festivities was a costume contest in which participants paraded around the basketball floor and a panel of judges – comprised of Akron men's and women's basketball student-athletes and coaches – selected the winners.

The evening concluded with an autograph session featuring both teams, their respective coaches and, of course, Zippy.

Both Zips squads open their seasons next week with home exhibition contests. The men face John Carroll on Thursday, Nov. 3, at 7 p.m. ET while the women take the court against Ohio Dominican on Saturday, Nov. 5, at noon ET.
