AKRON, Ohio – The University of Akron men's and women's golf teams will host its "Tee Off with the Zips" event on Friday, October 7, at Rosemont Country Club in Fairlawn, Ohio.

Fans wishing to register for the event can do so by contacting Graduate Assistant Lucas Murray at 330-972-6290 or lwm2@zips.uakron.edu. Fans can also register by filling out the registration form and mailing it to the men's golf office.

The format will be a five-person scramble, with four-player teams pairing up with a student-athlete or a coach from the men's and women's program. Entry fees for the entry fee will cover golf, lunch, dinner and player participation gifts. Other contests will include: men's/women's closest to the pin, long drive, a skins game and a silent auction.

Registration and lunch for the event will begin at noon ET, with the round of golf set for a shotgun start at 1:30 p.m. Dinner, the awards ceremony and auction will take place at 6:30 p.m.

The "Tee Off with the Zips" event is a great way for Zips fans to support both golf programs. By taking part in the event, fans will have the opportunity to mingle with coaches, alumni, friends and former teammates, while playing a round of golf on a beautiful course.

The men's program opened the 2011-12 season with a ninth-place finish at The Northern Intercollegiate on Sept. 11, led by sophomore Charlie Bull's top-15 finish. Akron is under the direction of first-year head coach David Trainor.

The women's team has posted two top-10 finishes in its first two events of the season. Freshman Sara Johansson has led the Zips early on; posting back-to-back top-25 finishes to open her freshman campaign. The women are coached by fourth-year head coach Jenny King.
