Banner Year for Zips Athletics Touted in 2012-13 Annual Report

AKRON, Ohio – Highlighted by five teams celebrating championships, record accomplishments in academics, and new heights in ticket sales, The University of Akron Department of Athletics enjoyed one of its most productive years in school history in 2012-13.

Those and many other outstanding achievements from the previous academic year are touted in the Zips Athletics Annual Report, which was released on Tuesday.

During 2012-13, the Zips claimed both the Mid-American Conference regular season and tournament titles in men's basketball and men's soccer, the MAC men's outdoor track and field championship, a MAC East Division title in women's basketball, and the Mid-Atlantic Conference small-bore championship in rifle.

UA Athletics fields 19 men's and women's varsity teams, comprised of more than 450 student-athletes. The Zips compete in the Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) of the NCAA's Division I and are a member of the Mid-American Conference. The rifle team (coed) competes in the Mid-Atlantic Rifle Conference and Western Intercollegiate Rifle Conference.
