PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. – Senior ace Andrew Brown produced his best outing of the season to lead the Akron baseball team to a 4-0 win over Xavier in Port Charlotte on Friday afternoon.
Brown went 7.0 strong innings, striking out six and walking none, before turning the ball over to Scott Foster who finished off the shutout.
"That's the Andrew Brown everybody knows," first-year Akron coach Rick Rembielak said. "He made a great adjustment in his form this week and he made it look easy all game long today."
"We had more guys swinging it well today," Rembielak commented. "We had a lot of hard outs and got some clutch hits with guys in scoring position. Overall, we played a very clean game today."
Xavier falls to 4-10 with the loss as Brown and Foster limited the Muskateers to just six hits on the day.
UA got on the board in the top of the third when Ahart scored on Trecaso's two-out single through the right side. Ahart had singled and stole second to get into scoring position.
Gamby would drive in Begun in the fifth after Begun also swiped second to get in position. Joey Havrilak drew a lead-off walk and scored on Begun's sacrifice fly in the sixth.
Akron capped the scoring when Stewart scored on Ahart's double in the eighth.
After Brown shutdown Xavier through the first seven frames, Foster came in and continued the shutout by striking out the side in the eighth. Foster would not allow a hit in the game and has pitched six straight shutout innings in his last two appearances.
