AKRON, Ohio — Akron junior quarterback Kyle Pohl (Farmersville, Ohio) was named the Mid-American Conference Offensive Player of the Week for the East Division on Monday.
In Thursday's 41-0 shutout victory over Howard, Pohl led the Zips with a career-high four touchdown passes on 23-of-36 passing for 308 yards. He threw three touchdown passes in the first six minutes of action, as each scoring drive was under 38 seconds. Pohl led all rushers with a career-high 48 yards on seven carries.
Additionally, Pohl was named the inaugural Zips' Student-Athlete of the Week, a new weekly honor determined by the Athletics Communications and New Media staff.
Akron (1-0) travels to Penn State (1-0) on Saturday, Sept. 6 for a Noon game at Beaver Stadium. ABC will televise the game live.
