CLEVELAND — Akron junior quarterback Kyle Pohl (Farmersville, Ohio) was named the season's first Male Scholar Athlete of the Week by the Mid-American Conference on Wednesday.
The Female Scholar Athlete of the Week was Northern Illinois' Mackenzie Roddy (volleyball).
An exercise science major with a 3.75 grade-point average, Pohl earned the MAC's Offensive Player of the Week for the East Division and the Zips' Student-Athlete of the Week honors on Monday.
In the 41-0 shutout victory over Howard, Pohl led the Zips with a career-high four touchdown passes on 23-of-36 passing for 308 yards. He threw three touchdown passes in the first six minutes of action, as each scoring drive was under 38 seconds. Pohl led all rushers with a career-high 48 yards on seven carries.
Akron (1-0) travels to Penn State (1-0) on Saturday, Sept. 6 for a Noon game at Beaver Stadium. ABC will televise the game.
