CLEVELAND — The Mid-American Conference announced the 2017 football schedule on Wednesday, and the University of Akron football team will play on national television a minimum of three times.

Under the guidance of sixth-year head coach Terry Bowden, Akron opens the 2017 season at Penn State (Sept. 2). Non-conference games include: at home against Arkansas Pine Bluff (Sept. 9) and Iowa State (Sept. 16); and at Troy (Sept. 23).

The Zips open MAC play at Bowling Green on Sept. 30. Homecoming is slated for Oct. 7 against Ball State. UA then travels West Division foes Western Michigan on Oct. 14 and Toledo on Oct. 21.

The Zips entertain Buffalo on Oct. 28.

Following a bye week (Nov. 4), play shifts to Tuesday nights for the month of November.

On Tuesday, Nov. 7, UA travels to Miami (Ohio) for a game on ESPN2 or ESPNU. The Zips close out the regular-season with two home MAC games. On Tuesday, Nov. 14, Akron hosts Ohio on ESPN2 or ESPNU. UA closes out the 2017 schedule in the Crystal Clinic Wagon Wheel Challenge game with cross-town rival Kent State on Tuesday, Nov. 21 on ESPNU or ESPN3.

All home games will be played at InfoCision Stadium - Summa Field.

An updated release of the MAC 2017 football schedule will be released in June with kickoff times and a television schedule for the first three weeks of the regular season and midweek games during late October and November. All other game kickoff times and television will be announced 12 days prior to the scheduled game.

The 21st Marathon MAC Football Championship game will be played at a date to be determined from Ford Field in Detroit.

The 2017 schedule will be challenging as six opponents participated in postseason bowls: Penn State (Big Ten Championship and Rose Bowl), Troy (W, 28-23 vs. Ohio in Dollar General Bowl), Miami (St. Petersburg Bowl), Ohio (MAC Championship and Dollar General), Toledo (Camelia Bowl), and Western Michigan (MAC Championship and Cotton Bowl).

The Penn State Nittany Lions (11-3 overall) were ranked No. 7 in both of the final polls for 2016, while Western Michigan (13-1) was No. 15/18. Troy (10-3) received votes.

Akron opens spring drills on March 20. The annual Spring Game is slated for Saturday, April 22 at Noon at InfoCision Stadium - Summa Field.

Season ticket plans—which include a ticket to all six home games as well as a parking pass—start at only $60 each. Renewals (for current season ticket holders) and new seats are now available for purchase by calling 1-888-99-AKRON (25766) or visiting The C.P. and Cornelia S.
