9:37 p.m. -
TIPOFF!!!!!

9:35 p.m. -
The game is being televised nationwide on CBS.

9:30 p.m. -
It seemed like maybe this moment would never come, but it's almost time for tipoff at the Palace! Both teams on the court for warmups. Brian Walsh and Pat Forsythe have been battling the flu, but both are dressed and on the court.

8:00 p.m. -
The team departs the hotel, following a send off by fans, pep band, cheerleaders and dance team in the lobby.

3:00 p.m. -
The Zips returned to the hotel after shoot around at Oakland Univeristy. The team had a good walkthrough in preparing for the Rams. Upon returning to the hotel, the team had a nice spread to partake in for lunch including burgers, fries, grilled cheese sandwiches and homemade tomato soup. The guys will now rest and will head downstairs at 5:30 p.m. for a pregame meal.

1:10 p.m. - For those of you who purchased tickets through our ticket office, Director of Ticket Operations, Adam O’Connell, will be in the lobby of the team hotel, the Marriott Centerpoint, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. today. He also will be at the arena’s west atrium box office starting at 5:45 p.m. until halftime of our game. Please bring photo identification to claim your tickets.

The Alumni Association is encouraging Zips alumni, fans and friends to gather at The Moose Preserve Bar & Grille in Bloomfield Hills before the game at 5 p.m.

If you’re not coming to Detroit, remember that Johnny J’s in the Valley is hosting a Zips Watch party.

12:35 p.m. -
During the next TV timeout ... check out this story by FoxSportsOhio's Zac Jackson about the path of Demetrius "Tree" Treadwell to the NCAA Tournament.

12:15 p.m. - A team send off from the hotel is planned for 8 p.m., and fans are asked to start lining up near the hotel's side entrance at 7:45 p.m., along with the pep band, cheerleaders and dance team ... Marriott Centerpoint in Pontiac, Mich., is 3600 Centerpoint Pkwy, 48341.

9:30 a.m. -
Always fun to look at the coverage in your opponent's newspaper, and the Richmond Times-Dispatch has an extensive preview of tonight's matchup.

8:21 a.m. -

12:00 a.m. - There's no better way to start this NCAA Tournament edition of #ZipsGameday than a video of Demetrius "Tree" Treadwell doing what he does best.

9:30 p.m. - Tree, Walsh and Zeke weren't the only ones that took part in Media Day festivities. Here's Nick Harney, Carmelo Betancourt and Chauncey Gilliam talking about making the tournament.

9:00 p.m. - Part of every NCAA Tournament experience is Media Day. Earlier today, head coach Keith Dambrot and student-athletes Zeke Marshall, Demetrius "Tree" Treadwell and Brian Walsh spoke to the media just 27 hours before tip-off. 7:00 p.m. - Akron wrapped up media day with 40 minutes on the floor at The Palace of Auburn Hills. March Madness legends Verne Lundquist & Bill Raftery were on hand, as well as Rachel Nichols, to watch the Zips shoot. To close the night, Demetrius "Tree" Treadwell wowed the crowd, as well as Lundquist and Raftery, with his dunking skills. Videos from the day to come shortly.

4:30 p.m. - The Zips are getting closer to visiting with the media today as part of the NCAA Tournament media day. Earlier, Coach Dambrot sat in a coaches meet with all of the other coaches at the site, including coaches Beilein, Izzo, Pastner, Smart, Bennett, Nagy and Drew. That's a pretty impressive group of coaches. Coach Smart and the VCU players are at the podium now. The Zips will go at 6:00 p.m. ET.

1:00 p.m. - Barak-etology ... President Barak Obama filled out his bracket and shared it with ESPN's Andy Katz. The Commander-in-Chief picked VCU over the Zips ... can you say locker room material?

12:40 p.m. -
CBS and Turner provide wall-to-wall coverage of this year's NCAA Tournament. Calling tomorrow's Akron-VCU game on CBS will be the veteran crew of Verne Lundquist and Bill Raftery. Lundquist/Raftery were voted No. 1 on USA Today's list of favorite March Madness personalities. Rachel Nichols serves as sideline reporter.

12:10 p.m. -
A banner displaying hand-written well wishes from Zips fans was hung this morning in the lobby of the team hotel.



11:45 a.m. -

7:30 a.m. - Good morning Zips Nation! Akron Basketball is prepping for a busy day. The team has a morning practice at Rochester College, then some down time before an open-to-the-public practice and media session tonight at The Palace at Auburn Hills. Fans can watch the Zips practice from 6:40-7:20 p.m., and then follow this blog and Twitter (@ZipsMBB, @FollowTheRoo, @ZipsDallas, @ZipsGregg, @CoachDambrot) during the media session (6-6:30 p.m.) to see what head coach Keith Dambrot and select student-athletes had to say about Thursday night's meeting with the VCU Rams.

11:30 p.m. - Day one of the team's NCAA trip is just about in the books. We leave you with this short video that was shot at the end of tonight's practice at Rochester College. That's Pat Forsythe off the wall to Deji Ibitayo for the dunk. Enjoy!



5:20 p.m. -
While the team was on the road this afternoon, head coach Keith Dambrot was named as one of five finalists for the Red Auerbach Coach-of-the-Year Award.

5:10 p.m. -
The NCAA does an excellent job of branding its men's basketball tournament and ensuring that each student-athlete's experience is the same regardless of at which site they are competing. The Zips were greeted with a tournament banner in the hotel lobby and the event's 75th anniversary logo is displayed on the room keys.





4:45 p.m. -
The Zips have arrived in Detroit. The movie selection for the trip...White Men Can't Jump. The team is getting settled in before grabbing dinner. Tonight's schedule includes practice at 7:30 p.m. before settling down for a long day of practice, media obligations and everything that comes with being in the NCAA Tournament.

1:00 p.m. - The Zips' team bus and one van full of support staff employees departed campus. The lunch menu consisted of burgers, fries and chicken nuggets from Swenson's.

11:40 a.m. -
Plenty of media on hand for practice today – the Zips' last workout at home before departing for their road headquarters in Michigan for the rest of the week. Senior guard Brian Walsh visited with the local media.



10:15 a.m. -
Over the past couple of days, head coach Keith Dambrot has hit the airwaves to discuss the Zips and their matchup with head coach Shaka Smart and the VCU Rams. Check out some of the interviews from this week:
