Men's Basketball Announces 2014 Gildan Charleston Classic Travel Plan

AKRON, Ohio – The University of Akron men's basketball team, in conjunction with the Z-Fund, has announced a special travel package for UA fans for the 2014 Gildan Charleston Classic, held Nov. 20-23 at TD Arena in Charleston, S.C.

Fans can now reserve their spot for the trip, which includes round trip airfare from Cleveland to Charleston on United Airlines, five nights at the Marriott Charleston Hotel, transportation to and from the airport, in addition to TD Arena, a ticket for each of the three Zips games and a meal with Head Coach Keith Dambrot and the team. Also, fans will be able to reserve a golf package for an additional cost.

The cost of the trip is $1,019 per person and is based on double occupancy. A $200 per person deposit is required to reserve a spot, with final payment due by Oct. 1. Fans wishing to reserve a spot can mail in the attached reservation form or contact Lance Chima, Chima Travel, at 330-867-4770.

The Zips will open the Gildan Charleston Classic against Southern California on Thursday, Nov. 20, at 12:30 p.m. ET.

The matchup will be the first on the hardwood between the Zips and Trojans. Overall, the Zips are 2-3 against the current members of the Pac-12. In addition to the win over the Beavers last season, Akron is 1-1 against Arizona State and 0-1 against California and Washington State. The rest of the field includes: Charlotte, Cornell, Drexel, Miami (Fla.), Penn State and South Carolina.

With a win, the Zips would to face the winner of the Drexel-Miami (Fla.) contest on Friday, Nov 21. That game is also set to air on ESPN2 or ESPNU, with tip-off scheduled for 2:30 p.m. ET.

The championship game of the tournament is set for Sunday, Nov. 23, at 9 p.m. ET on ESPN2.
