Matt Futch is in his first season as a graduate assistant on the UA coaching staff, joining the staff after spending the past two seasons as an assistant coach at St. Vincent-St. Mary High School in Akron, Ohio.
While an assistant at SVSM, he helped the boys basketball team win the 2011 Division II state championship. In 2010, he helped the Irish to a spot in the regional finals. He also served as the head coach for the freshman team. During the 2010-11 season, he was also an assistant coach for the east team at the 2010 McDonald's All-American Game.
Before joining the SVSM staff, he spent one season with his alma matar, Buchtel High School, as a volunteer coach (2008-09).
After concluding his playing career at Akron, he spent two seasons playing professional basketball. In 2006, he played one season in Portugal while spending 2007 playing ball in Mexico.
In three seasons for the Zips from 2003-06, Futch averaged 3.8 ppg and 2.7 rpg while appearing in 86 career games (56 starts).
A standout player at Akron's Butchel High School, he average 15 points, 11 rebounds and four blocks as a senior, leading his team to a 17-6 record. He earned all-state honors as a junior and senior while earning a nomination for the McDonald's All-America team as a senior.
The 2010 graduate of The University of Akron, Futch earned his bachelors degree in sports management. He has twin daughters, Sarah and Samyra (8).
