Barberton, Ohio, native Terry Weigand (pronounced WHY-gand) is in his eighth season as an assistant for the Zips. He has over 20 years of collegiate coaching experience, with his strength being in the area of overall player development.

Weigand's association with UA head coach Keith Dambrot is as both student-athlete and coach, having played for Dambrot for two seasons at Tiffin (1985-1986) and then spending two seasons (1990-1991) as Dambrot's assistant at Ashland.

Prior to the assistant coaching role, he lettered two seasons (1988-1989) for the Eagles. The 1988 team advanced to the D-II NCAA Tournament.

In his two seasons as an assistant at Ashland, the program amassed a record of 48-13 (.787) and made appearances in the NCAA Tournament's Sweet 16 in 1990 and Elite 8 in 1991.

Weigand began a four-year stint as head coach at Ashland in the 1991-92 season. That season, Weigand's squad was Great Lakes Valley Conference champions and averaged 100.6 ppg.

In 1995, he moved on to Mount Union, where he assisted in rebuilding the program. The Raiders posted their first winning season in 18 years during his first year, and advanced to the Sweet 16 of the D-III NCAA Tournament during the 1996-97 season. In his nine seasons at the school, the team posted just one sub-.500 record.

Weigand earned a bachelor's degree in hotel and restaurant management from Ashland in 1989 and a master's degree in sports science from Ashland in 1997. As a player at Tiffin, he recorded a program-best 489 career assists and averaged 7.9 apg. He recorded a program best 291 assists (9.1 apg) during the 1985-86 season.

A 1984 graduate of Barberton High School, Weigand helped BHS to a runner-up finish in the 1982 state playoffs. He was inducted into the Barberton HS Hall of Fame in 1997.

Weigand and his wife, Jodi, have a daughter, Brittne (10), and two sons, Trent (12) and Trevor (8).
