AKRON, Ohio – Junior Reinaldo Brenes from the No. 3 University of Akron men's soccer team has been named Mid-American Conference Player of the Week for the second time this season, the league office announced Tuesday.

Brenes stayed hot with a pair of goals, including his third consecutive game-winner, to lead the Zips to a pair of 2-0 road victories at Penn State and Northern Illinois last week.

The native of San Jose, Costa Rica, chipped the keeper in the 28th minute against the Nittany Lions and then put the game away against the Huskies with a late goal. Brenes, who entered the season with just one goal in his first two seasons at UA, has now found the back of the net seven times in his last four matches.

Brenes is tied with Scott Caldwell for the team lead with seven goals on the season and is one of three players on the club to find the net at least five times. Eric Stevenson rounds out that list with five goals and four assists.

As a team, the Zips (9-1-2) are ranked eighth in the nation in scoring offense with an average of 2.42 goals per game and third in goals-against-average (0.40) after limiting foes to just five goals in 12 matches.

Akron brings a seven-game shutout streak and six-game win streak to play when it hosts Michigan from the Big Ten tonight at FirstEnergy Stadium – Cub Cadet Field starting at 7:30 p.m. (ET).
