CLEVELAND, Ohio - The University of Akron men's soccer program has been picked to win both the MAC regular season title and conference tournament in a preseason poll of conference coaches, the league office announced Tuesday.

After a 5-1 conference record in 2013 including a MAC Championship victory over Western Michigan, the Zips have received four of six first-place votes to win the regular season title in the MAC and three of six to repeat as MAC Tournament champions.

Western Michigan, last year's runner up in the conference, along with West Virginia each received one vote in the preseason poll. The Mountaineers also received two votes to win the conference tournament while the Broncos received one.

The Zips held a 44-0-3 record in the MAC heading into last season, the longest conference unbeaten streak in NCAA history, before falling to Hartwick at home on Oct. 5, 2013.

Ranked No. 13 in the nation in the NSCAA Preseason Poll, Akron begins conference play on Friday, Oct. 11 at Bowling Green before returning home for a four game homestand that includes games against both West Virginia (Oct. 17) and Western Michigan (Oct. 25).

After traveling to Northern Illinois to face the Huskies on the road on Nov. 1, the Zips wrap up conference action with a home match against Buffalo on Nov. 8, also the team's final regular season game.

The MAC Tournament this year will be held on the weekend of Nov. 14-16 as four of the six teams in the conference will once again qualify for the bracket. Both semifinal games will take place on Friday, Nov. 14 and the championship on Sunday, Nov. 16, all at the home of the No. 1 seed.

Akron takes to the road this Friday as they will face No. 5 New Mexico in Albuquerque at 9 p.m.
