AKRON, Ohio - University of Akron men's soccer sophomore Richie Laryea (Toronto, Ontario (Canada) has been named by College Soccer News to its National Men's Soccer Team of the Week it was announced on Monday, Nov. 23.
Laryea turned in his team-leading fourth multi-goal performance, while adding an assist, to spark the Zips to a 6-1 triumph over Rutgers in the second round of the NCAA Tournament on Sunday, Nov. 22, at FirstEnergy Stadium – Cub Cadet Field.
Laryea recorded his sixth assist of the season with a finishing pass to sophomore Stuart Holthusen (Auckland, New Zealand), who capitalized in the 13th minute (12:28) against the Scarlet Knights to give Akron a 2-0 lead.
Seventeen seconds later, Laryea pushed Akron's lead to 3-0 connecting on an unassisted tally at the 12:45 mark. The goal was Laryea's team-leading 10th of the season.
Laryea posted his second goal of the game finding the back of the net for the 11th time in 2015 at the 17:39 mark.
On the campaign, Laryea owns team-best marks in goals (11), points (28), shots on goal (25) and game-winners (3), while rating third in assists (6) and shots (51).
Akron (16-3-2) hosts No. 11 SMU in the third round of the NCAA Tournament on Sunday, Nov. 29. Game time at FirstEnergy Stadium – Cub Cadet Field is set for 4 p.m.
