Akron Softball Sweeps Weekly MAC Honors
CLEVELAND – For the first time on the young season, the Akron softball team swept the weekly Mid-American Conference honors, with freshman Kellie Roudabush and redshirt-freshman Brittany Maurer take MAC East honors, the league office announced on Tuesday.
Roudabush earner MAC East Player of the Week honors after starting all four of Akron's games last week at the College of Charleston Cougar Classic. She accounting for five hits, three doubles, one RBI and a .727 slugging percentage in 11 at-bats.
In the Zips' win over Morehead State, Roudabush had two hits, as well as in the squad's loss to Charleston Southern. She posted a double in three of last weekend's outings, doing so versus College of Charleston, Morehead State and Charleston Southern to achieve a team-high .455 on-base percentage.
Maurer started in the circle in all four of Akron's games last week, managing a 1.14 ERA and 12 strikeouts in 23.2 innings of work. Only three of the 12 runs she allowed in those appearances were earned. Five of her 12 strikeouts came versus College of Charleston and she posted just one walk in that contest.
Akron returns to action on March 3 when the squad travels to Fairfax, Va., for the Patriot Classic. The Zips will face Marist and host George Mason on Saturday and Rider and Marist on Sunday.
