Women’s Basketball Finishes Strong in Classroom

AKRON, Ohio - Wrapping up the 2010-11 academic year, The University of Akron women's basketball team posted high marks in the classroom, finishing with a 3.43 cumulative team GPA. In addition, 10 of 13 student-athletes on the squad made the Dean's List this year. Head Coach Jodi Kest, who finished her fifth year at the helm of the program this season, stresses the importance of academic achievement to her players.

"I am very proud of our young ladies' accomplishments in the classroom," said Kest. "Academics are very important, and having 10 of 13 student-athletes on the Dean's List shows how disciplined they are. It is not easy to balance classwork and athletics, and these results demonstrate how dedicated this group is to performing at a high level both on and off the court."

The Zips finished the 2010-11 season with a 14-16 overall record and a 6-10 mark in the Mid-American Conference, culminated by a near upset of top-seeded Toledo in the MAC Tournament Quarterfinals in Cleveland.
