Women's Golf Finishes Tied for Fourth at MAC Championships
NASHPORT, Ohio -
The University of Akron women's golf team finished the 2011 Mid-American Conference Women's Golf Championships tied for fourth place at the par-72, 6,073-yard Longaberger Golf Club on Sunday.
The Zips posted a round of 309 (+21) on day three to finish the weekend with a three-round score of 943 (+79), tied with Western Michigan. Kent State won its 13th-straight MAC title with a cumulative score of 916 (+52).
Junior Kristen Hill earned First-Team All-MAC honors for her performances throughout the season and was named to the MAC All-Tournament team. Hill has made the All-MAC team three times, twice on the first team (2010).
Hill posted the best finish in school history at the MAC Tournament, closing out the event tied for fifth place. She carded a round of 3-over 75 to finish with a three-day tally of 231 (+15). Junior Katie Jenior held the previous-best finish in school history at the league championships, finishing tied for 11th place last year.
Junior Hanna Ek saved her best round of the weekend for last, posting a 4-over 76 to finish in a tenth-place tie at 234 (+18).
Junior Tyler Etcheberry recorded her first top-20 finish in three tries at the MAC Championships, finishing the weekend tied for 17th place (237, +21). She carded a final-round 79 (+7) to close out her junior campaign.
Junior Amanda Butler and freshman Sara Chaves closed out the championship event tied for 31st place with a three-round score of 247 (+31). Butler posted a round of 7-over 79 while Chaves finished with a 9-over 81.
The MAC Championship concludes the 2010-11 schedule for the Zips. Overall, Akron posted 10 top-10 and five top-five finishes in 11 events this season, including the first win in program history (Third Annual Zippy Invitational, Oct. 11-12).
