Women's Golf Closes Day One of MAC Championship in Third Place

FISHERS, Ind. – Four Zips sit inside the top-20 as the Akron women's golf team closed day one of the 2014 Mid-American Conference Championship in third place at the par-72, 6,102-yard Hawthorns Golf and Country Club.

The Zips closed round one with a score of 313 (+25) and hold a one-shot advantage over Northern Illinois and Eastern Michigan. Defending-champion Kent State leads the field by six strokes (296, +8).

Leading the way for Akron on day one was Laura Murray, who posted a round of 5-over 77 to finish in a tie for 13th place. Frida Fougberg sits one shot behind Murray, carding a first-round 78 (+6) and is tied for 15th place.

Lina Bengtsson and Sara Chaves ended the round in a tie for 18th place thanks to rounds of 7-over 79. The round for Bengtsson is the first in nearly a month after missing the last two events due to injury.

Mallory Etcheberry rounded out the scoring-five in 45th place after posting a round of 91 (+19).
