Women's Golf Concludes MAC Championship in a Tie for Fifth Place

FISHERS, Ind. – Three Zips finished inside the top 25 as the Akron women's golf team closed out the 2014 Mid-American Conference Championship in a tie for fifth place on Sunday at the par-72, 6,102-yard Hawthorns Golf and Country Club.

Laura Murray posted her second-consecutive top-20 finish while Lina Bengtsson and Frida Fougberg posted their first top-25 finishes at the final event of the 2013-14 campaign.

As a team, the Zips posted a final-round 329 (+41) to finish with a three-day score of 953 (+89). UA finished tied with Western Michigan. Kent State won the team title with a 54-hole tally of 895 (+31).

Murray and Bengtsson each finished in a tied for 18th place with identical scores of 236 (+20). Murray posted an 82 (+10) while Bengtsson carded a round of 83 (+11).

Fougberg ended the day three shots behind Murray and Bengtsson in 21st place with a total score of 239 (+23). She ended the championship event with a round of 82 (+10).

Sara Chaves, playing in the final event of her Akron career, closed out the day in 34th place (245, +29) after carding a round 82 (+10).

Mallory Etcheberry rounded out the scoring-five in 45th place (258, +42) after posting a round of 86 (+14).

The event concludes the 2013-14 season for the Zips.
