Women's Soccer Completes Successful Spring Season
AKRON, Ohio - The University of Akron women's soccer team wrapped up their slate of spring competition this past weekend, finishing the spring with a record of 6-2-1. The Zips recorded clean sheets in six of the nine games and played at Big Ten power Penn State.
"This was probably the best spring season we have had since I have been here," said coach Chris Pfau. "Not only because of our record, but also because we competed in every match, including our game against Penn State. Every day the players showed up ready to play, both in practices and in games. "
The spring was highlighted by three wins in one day as Akron hosted Duquesne, Miami (OH), and Ashland.
"That was a great day for us," commented Pfau. "The day was long, but it tested our mental strength to continue to play at a high level throughout every game and then come away with winning results."
The spring results have given the side a solid foundation for the 2011 fall season. With a group of nine solid recruits joining the team this fall, the program's expectations are high.
"Our players have been extremely competitive all spring and that attitude transferred to our games," finished Pfau. "I fully expect our players to carry this attitude into the fall."
Two trips to the state of Florida and home matches against Michigan State and five Mid-American Conference foes at Cub Cadet Field, formerly Lee R. Jackson Soccer Field, highlight the 2011 University of Akron women's soccer schedule. The Zips will also play three sides that qualified for the NCAA Tournament last season.
