AKRON, Ohio – Ocasek Natatorium and The University of Akron swimming and diving program will host the 2012 Mid-American Conference Women's Swimming and Diving Championships this weekend.
The three-day meet features prelims at 11 a.m. ET and finals at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Friday and Saturday.
Visit the official MAC Women's Swimming and Diving Championships page for the complete schedule of the three-day event and links to view the live video stream and live statistics.
Tickets for the event are $10 per day for adults or $20 for a three-day pass. Youth tickets will be available for $5 per day and $15 for a three-day pass. All students of MAC schools with valid university ID may attend this weekend's meet for free. Heat sheets for each session will be sold for $2.
It will be a busy weekend on campus overall with the MAC Indoor Track and Field Championship meet running concurrently at Stile Athletics Field House. As such, swim and dive fans are strongly encouraged to park in Lot 1 (east campus parking deck on the corner of Spicer and Carroll streets) and Lot 8 (on the corner of Spicer and Carroll streets behind the natatorium) for convenience purposes.
The championship meet will feature women's squads from Akron, Ball State, Bowling Green, Buffalo, Eastern Michigan, Miami, Ohio and Toledo. Ohio enters the weekend as the defending champion.
Akron will have several student-athletes primed for big performances this weekend.
Sophomore Catherine Carr is set for her second conference meet after breaking the school record in the 400-yard individual medley a season ago. Carr finished seventh in the event in a time of 4:22.15.
Juniors Becca Zimmer and Kelsea Cross will also be key competitors for coach Nittaya Klim's squad. Zimmer took seventh in the 200-yard freestyle in last season's MAC meet, while Cross placed seventh in the 100-yard backstroke.
Senior Meg Finnerty will be looking to close out her Akron swimming career on a high note. Finnerty placed fifth in the 200-yard freestyle at the Zippy Invitational in December.
On the boards, the tandem of Leeanna Hoover and Carla McNamara will be looking to recreate the success they had at last season's MAC Championships. Hoover took third in the 3-meter springboard, with McNamara finishing right behind in fourth. In the 2011 1-meter competition, Hoover finished seventh and McNamara eighth.
