AKRON, Ohio – The University of Akron tennis team begins a three-match homestand on Saturday when it plays host to Mid-American Conference opponent Buffalo at 1 p.m. ET outdoors at Springside Racquet Club in nearby Fairlawn.
The Zips (17-2, 3-1 MAC) are 8-1 at home this season and look to extend a three-match win streak in the all-time series with the Bulls (6-8, 2-2 MAC), who will be competing in their third-consecutive road contest. UA topped UB twice last year, 7-0 during the regular season in Buffalo and 4-0 in the MAC tournament quarterfinal round.
Akron has won three-straight and five of its last six matches. Three of those five victories have been shutouts, including its previous outing at Bowling Green on April 1. Freshman Olga Shkundina is 4-0 in MAC play at No. 2 singles this season (17-1 overall in singles), while UA's No. 1 doubles pair of Zara Harutyunyan and Prang Pantusart looks to build off a 17-0 mark in dual-match play this season (4-0 in the MAC).
UA's homestand continues with visits by Eastern Michigan on April 13 and Toledo one day later. The Zips close the conference schedule at Northern Illinois on April 21, and will then look to defend their conference tournament title beginning on April 26. The league championship event will be hosted by NIU in DeKalb, Ill.
