2011-12 Intercollegiate Tennis Association Rankings
AKRON, Ohio – Entering the final week of the regular season, The University of Akron tennis team is listed No. 75 in the latest Intercollegiate Tennis Association rankings. The sport's governing body ranks the top-75 squads weekly throughout the dual-match season.
The Zips are appearing in the poll for the first time since March 13 when they were ranked No. 71. UA debuted in this year's poll at No. 57, bettering the program's highest-ever ranking of No. 63 it received in consecutive weeks in late March 2010 (ranking periods starting on March 23 and 30).
Akron, the defending Mid-American Conference tournament champion, travels to Northern Illinois on April 21 for its final league match of the season and will have a non-conference competition at UIC the next day. The team has won six-straight matches and owns a 20-2 overall record and a 6-1 mark against MAC competition this season.
The conference tournament runs April 26-29 in DeKalb, Ill., with the winner earning the league's automatic bid into the NCAA Tournament.
