AKRON, Ohio – Prang Pantusart, a junior from The University of Akron's Mid-American Conference Champion tennis team, has been named MAC Female Scholar-Athlete of the Week, the league office announced Wednesday.
Pantusart, who owns a 3.54 GPA as a finance major at UA, shares this week's honor with Kent State's Mercedes Germino and Toledo's Lindsay Tobias.
Pantusart, a native of Thailand, scored a three-set, last-match-on-court win at No. 3 singles to give the second-seeded Zips' a 4-3 comeback victory over top-seeded Miami (Ohio) in the MAC tournament championship on Sunday, and made the Zips back-to-back winners of the event.
After winning her first set 6-3, Pantusart dropped the next set 7-5 to Nimisha Mohan, but brought home match point with a resounding 6-0 decision in the third set. The clutch performance earned her event MVP honors and landed her on the all-tournament team.
On Thursday, Pantusart was named to the All-MAC Second Team, the second all-league honor of her collegiate career. She is 19-3 in dual-match singles play this season, including a 15-2 mark when playing in the No. 3 spot.
The Zips will travel to Evanston, Ill., to face off against 13th overall seed Northwestern in the first round of the NCAA Championship on Friday, May 11 at Vandy Christie Tennis Center. A time for the match has yet to be announced.
