Pantusart Named Academic All-MAC for Second-Straight Year

CLEVELAND – University of Akron junior tennis student-athlete Prang Pantusart was named to the eight-person Academic All-Mid-American Conference Team, the league office announced on Tuesday. This is the second-straight season and second time during her collegiate career that she was named to this list.

Pantusart, who earned Second-Team All-MAC, MAC All-Tournament Team and MAC Tournament MVP honors this season as well, owns a 3.54 grade-point average as a finance major.

The native of Amphur Muang, Nonthaburi, Thailand finished the season with a 26-8 singles record (19-4 dual) and a 31-5 doubles mark (23-3 dual). She paired with senior Zara Harutyunyan at No. 1 doubles to record a 28-4 overall record (21-2 dual). That doubles team ranked as high as 58th nationally by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association and won its first 19 matches of the dual season. Pantusart also boasted a six-match singles win streak to open the dual-match schedule.

Her highlight of the season was winning a three-set, last-match-on-court contest at No. 3 singles to clinch a 4-3 victory for second-seeded Akron over top-seeded Miami (Ohio) in the MAC tournament title match on April 29. That was the Zips' second-straight conference tournament championship and second ever in program history.

Voting was done by the faculty athletics representatives at the nine conference schools that sponsor women's tennis as an NCAA varsity sport. Nominees must have a minimum 3.20 cumulative GPA to be eligible to be on the ballot.
