Tennis Advances to Round of 16 in Singles, Doubles at Cissie Leary Invite

PHILADELPHIA – University of Akron juniors Angelina Jogasuria and Ksenia Berestetska each advanced into the singles main draw round of 16 in their respective flight as did one of the Zips' two doubles teams in day one of the Cissie Leary Invitational on Friday. The three-day event is being hosted by Penn.
Jogasuria, who earned an opening round bye in flight A, defeated Temple's Jordan Batey 6-2, 1-6, 10-7 in the round of 32. She will face Cornell's Ryann Young on Saturday in the round of 16. Berestetska, competing in flight B, also enjoyed a first-round bye before downing Drexel's Alex Bell 6-4, 6-0 to advance. She will meet Columbia's Amy Li tomorrow.
In doubles, the UA pair of Jogasuria and freshman Madison Cohen, took advantage of a first-round bye before defeating Dartmouth's Sarah Bessen and Suzy Tan 8-4 in the round of 32. That duo will take on Cornell's Young and Laila Judeh tomorrow.
The other Zips' doubles team of Berestetska and freshman Signe Lazdina lost 8-5 to Drexel's Zeynep Mafa and Marcela Rosales in the first round.
