Tennis Readies for Spartan Invite at Michigan State

– The University of Akron tennis team will be in East Lansing, Mich., this weekend to participate in the 23rd-annual Auto-Owners Insurance Spartan Invitational at Michigan State. The three-day event will be held on campus at the MSU Outdoor Tennis Courts.

Along with the host Spartans and visiting Zips, Ball State, Cleveland State, Dayton, Illinois-Chicago, IPFW, Marquette, Miami (Ohio), Purdue, Toledo, Wisconsin and Xavier will also compete in the tournament which features six singles draws and three brackets of doubles.

Four UA student-athletes are scheduled to compete this weekend, including Prang Pantusart in flight A singles, Angelika Jogasuria in flight B, Ksenia Berestetska in flight C and Signe Lazdina in flight D. Pantusart and Jogasuria will pair up in flight A doubles and Berestetska and Lazdina will join forces in flight B.

Berestetska was crowned champion of flight C singles at the 2011 Spartan Invitational. At the 2010 event, UA's Zara Harutyunyan won flight A singles and teamed with Angelina Jogasuria to claim flight A doubles.

The Zips conclude their fall schedule at Midwest regionals on Oct. 18-23, hosted by University of Illinois.
