AKRON, Ohio – The University of Akron women's tennis team makes a trip to southwest Ohio on Saturday for a contest against Dayton at 2:30 p.m. ET at the Five Seasons Sports Court and at 7 p.m. versus Wright State at South Regency Tennis Center.
Akron (1-5) comes off a weekend in which it lost a pair of home matches to nationally-ranked competition – 4-3 to No. 52 Missouri and 6-1 to No. 73 Princeton. The highlight from last week came from the Zips' No. 1 doubles team of Prang Pantusart and Angelina Jogasuria who took down two nationally-ranked pairs. On Friday, that duo defeated the 26th-ranked Missouri team of Cierra Gaytan-Leach and Elisha Gabb, 9-7, and on Sunday topped the 45th-ranked Princeton team of Lindsay Graff and Amanda Muliawan, 8-7 (4).
Jogasuria went 1-1 at No. 3 singles last weekend and improved her season record at that position in the lineup to 4-1. Ksenia Berestetska went 2-0 at No. 5 singles last week, not giving up more than three points in any set and winning one of those by a count of 6-0.
Including Missouri and Princeton, UA's five previous opponents were nationally ranked [No. 50 Penn State (L, 5-2; Jan. 20), No. 4 USC (L, 4-0; Jan. 26), No. 55 Tulane (L, 4-1; Jan. 27)].
Saturday marks the 12th all-time meeting between the Zips and Flyers, and first since 2006 (5-2 Dayton win in Akron). UD leads the series, 7-4. Wright State last took on UA last season in Akron, with the Zips claiming a 7-0 victory and improving its lead in the all-time series to 19-6. Akron has defeated WSU in consecutive meetings.
Dayton (4-5) competes against Youngstown State this afternoon, while Wright State (2-2) faces Chicago State tonight.
