EAST LANSING, Mich. – Represented by junior Olga Shkundina and freshman Shannon Newnes, the Akron women's tennis team participated in day two of the Auto-Owners Insurance Spartan Invitational at Michigan State on Saturday.

Shkundina lost her flight A singles semifinal contest versus MSU's Erin Faulkner 4-6, 6-4, 6-2. She teamed with Newnes in flight A doubles, where the duo suffered a 9-7 loss to Faulkner and Athena Trouillot.

A shoulder injury prohibited Newnes from being able to serve, forcing her to withdraw from competition in today's consolation bracket of flight B singles.

The event concludes on Sunday, with competition scheduled to get underway at 9 a.m. ET.
