Tennis Completes Day Two of Midwest Regional

Qualifying Singles Draw | Doubles Main Draw | Singles Main Draw
ANN ARBOR, Mich. – The Akron doubles team of junior Olga Shkundina and freshman Shannon Newnes advanced to the main draw round of 32 on Friday during the second day of the USTA/ITA Midwest Regional Championships at the University of Michigan's Varsity Tennis Center.
The duo defeated Wisconsin-Milwaukee's Diana Tokar and Christina Colarossi 8-6, but then lost 8-0 to Northwestern's Nida Hamilton and Maddie Lipp.
Shkundina also was selected to compete in the singles main draw, which begins on Saturday. She will face Michigan's Sara Remynse in the opening round.
UA senior Ksenia Berestetska also was chosen participate in the Regional and competed in Thursday's qualfiying singles draw. After earning an opening round bye, she was defeated 6-2, 7-5 by Northwestern's Maddie Lipp.
