CLEVELAND
– University of Akron women's tennis senior Ksenia Berestetska was named Mid-American Conference Singles Player of the Week, the league office announced on Wednesday. She is the first Zip to earn the award this season.

Berestetska, a native of Kiev, Ukraine, posted a 2-0 record in singles play last week as UA earned a 5-2 road win at Portland State on Friday and a 6-1 loss at Oregon on Saturday. Both of her victories came at the No. 5 spot in the lineup. Berestetska's 6-1, 6-1 win over Portland State's Ayaka Terakawa sparked a Zips' comeback after they lost the early doubles point, while the 6-2, 6-3 win over Oregon's Lana Buttner thwarted a potential shutout by the Ducks.

Berestetska is 10-1 in singles play this season.

After four-straight weekends of dual-match competition and five-consecutive away contests, Akron (8-3) is idle this week. The squad returns home to take on Duquesne and Butler in a doubleheader on Saturday, March 8. Those matches will begin at 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. ET, respectively, at LaTuchie Tennis Center in nearby Stow (driving directions).
