Volleyball Inks Two During Early Signing Period

AKRON, Ohio - Head volleyball coach Ron Arenz has announced the signing of two state champions in middle blocker Mary Delich and outside hitter Kym Gordon. Both student-athletes will join the Zips for the 2011 campaign.

"Both Kym and Mary combine the physical presence and big match experience we need as we continue making moves towards top billing in the MAC," said Coach Arenz. "As tough competitors who will immediately challenge for a point-scoring position on our roster, Kym's powerful attacks and Mary's speed will add a new dimension for our offense."

Delich, who stands 5-11, hails from Omaha, Neb. and Daniel J. Gross High School, where she helped her team to back-to-back Class B state championships in 2009 and 2010. The standout was named All-Nebraska Honorable Mention her freshman and sophomore seasons and both All-Area and All-State her junior year. Her team also claimed the RiverCity Conference title three of four years and won the district championship all four years of her career.

Gordon, 6-2 from Canandaigua, N.Y., was recently named a 2011 Senior Ace by PrepVolleyball.com. The 2009 National High School Junior of the Year Finalist and All-American Honorable Mention led her Canandaigua Academy team to a Class AA state championship her junior season. Named the 2009 New York State Championship Class AA MVP, Gordon is also a three-time First Team All-League honoree. As a freshman, Gordon was recognized by PrepVolleyball.com as part of the "Frosh 59 Best High School Playing Freshmen." She also starred on the basketball and track & field teams.
