MAC Announces the All-Academic Volleyball Team (MAC-Sports.com)

CLEVELAND
– University of Akron volleyball student-athletes senior Courtney Jarvis and sophomore Alex Cocklin have been named to the Mid-American Conference's Academic Honorable Mention list, the league office announced.

Voting was done by the faculty athletics representative at each MAC member institution.

Jarvis (pictured right), an All-MAC Second Team honoree as well this season, maintains a 3.34 grade-point average as an education major. Playing in all 29 matches as an outside hitter, she posted a team-high 346 kills to finish her UA career with 1,015. She also led the team in kills per set (3.33) and points (376.0), and tallied 221 digs, 30 blocks and 22 assists. Selected as the MAC East Division Player of the Week on Oct. 31, Jarvis closed out the regular-season ranked sixth in the league in kills per set and seventh in points per set.

Cocklin, also an outside hitter, maintains a 3.45 GPA as an education major. She competed in all 29 matches this season and finished the year ranked second on the team in kills (204) and points (231.0). Additionally, she recorded the third most blocks on the squad (42) and was credited with 101 digs.

The Academic All-MAC honor is for a student-athlete who has excelled in athletics and academics. To qualify, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.20 cumulative GPA and have participated in at least 50 percent of the contests for that particular sport. First-year students and junior college transfers in their first year of residence are not eligible for the award.

The number of honorees on the Academic All-MAC team is equivalent to the number of first-team selections or 33 percent of the number of nominees, whichever is greater. The remaining student-athletes are recognized as Academic Honorable Mention selections.
