Special Events are critical to engaging current and prospective donors. We maintain a calendar throughout the year to do so.  From pre-game receptions to golf tournaments, special events are critical to the success of the Z-Fund.


Varsity “A’” Association Beer and Wine Tasting Event

Friday, July 25, 2014 – 7:00pm

Join the Varsity “A” Association Board and your favorite Zips coaches for a unique Beer & Wine Tasting event complete with live music! Chef John Bahas of Prime 93 has designed a menu that pairs specially chosen beers and wines with amazing hors d’oeuvres and dessert creations. There are several different ticket packages and sponsorship opportunities available. All proceeds help to support the Varsity “A” Association and our Zips student-athletes. It's that time of year again as the 2014 edition of the Summer Classic Golf Outing, presented by FirstEnergy and hosted by The University of Akron men's basketball team, is set for Friday, Aug. 15, at the Shale Creek Golf Club in Medina, Ohio.

Alumni, friends and fans will have the opportunity to play on this beautiful course while enjoying the company of the coaching staff of your Akron Zips. The deadline for registration is August 8.

Registration for the event is now open, with a number of ways fans and sponsors can participate. From joining as part of a foursome to taking part in one of the many sponsorship opportunities available for the event, everyone has an opportunity to help the men's basketball program continue to be one of the premier mid-major programs in the country.

Football Kick-Off Luncheon, hosted by Tim Brando

Friday, August 22, 2014 – Quaker Station

Kick off the 2014 Zips Football season with Head Coach Terry Bowden, our outstanding staff and the young men who will be working to bring the Mid-American Conference championship trophy to Akron this fall at the annual kick-off luncheon. This year's luncheon will be hosted by Sirius XM radio host and network play-by-play announcer Tim Brando. You will not want to miss this event!

Zips Football Charter Trip to Penn State

Saturday, September 6, 2014

Join Zips Football on the road as we travel to Happy Valley for a Big Ten matchup with the Nittany Lions. This will be the first home game for new Penn State Head Coach James Franklin, so the atmosphere will undoubtedly be electric. Come to cheer the Zips on in this great environment. The game will start at noon ET and a departure time has not been determined to date. Please continue to check back for the full timeline of events for this trip.

Men's Soccer 60th Anniversary Celebration

This fall marks 60 years of excellence for Zips Men's Soccer......three trips to the College Cup, 15 regular season MAC Titles, 27 NCAA postseason appearances and the University's first ever NCAA Team National Championship in 2010 highlight some of the milestones of this storied program. To celebrate all of the former coaches and players who built this nationally recognized brand Akron Soccer, Zips Athletics has scheduled a great weekend full of events for alumni, family and fans to enjoy.
