ANN ARBOR, Mich. – Akron women's tennis concluded play at the 2017 ITA Midwest Regional Championships, presented by Oracle, after doubles action on Friday.

Weather forced all play indoors at the Varsity Tennis Center, and no consolation singles matches were played.

In the first round of main draw doubles competition, freshmen Anna Uljanov (Schweinfurt, Germany) and Madison Wolfe (Monument, Colo.) lost to Toledo's Mimi Kendall-Woseley and Dee Dee Leenabanchong, 8-5.

Senior captain Carli Knezevich (Austin, Texas) and sophomore Rita Pedroso (Porto, Portugal) fell to host Michigan's Lera Patiuk and Bella Lorenzini, 8-3.

"Even though we weren't able to win either doubles matches today, I feel that we definitely played at a higher level then we have for most of the fall," head coach Brandon Padgett said. "Anna and Madison played Toledo's #1 team and fought hard from start to finish. Carli and Rita played a strong Michigan team, and once they relaxed and focused on themselves, they played excellent tennis. Overall, this was a tough few days, but that is what regionals is like. The level of play here is always outstanding."

Hosted by the University of Michigan, the six-day ITA Midwest Regional Championships continue through Monday. The remaining schedule is listed below.
