AKRON, Ohio – The University of Akron women's tennis team dropped two close rounds on the second day of action at its own Akron Shootout.
In singles action, the Zips fell to Cleveland State, 4-2, before dropping a 2-1 decision in doubles action to Oakland.
"Today was a struggle for us overall," said Akron head coach Brandon Padgett. "We continue to work on consistency and improving shot selection. I saw some improvement today that didn't result in wins, but the important thing is development at this point in the season."
In singles action, freshman Anna Uljanov (Schweinfurt, Germany) claimed her second singles victory with a 6-1, 6-7 (6), 10-4 win over CSU' Jana Schober at the No. 3 spot.
At No. 6 singles, junior Luisa Echeverry (Cali, Colombia) defeated Kristina Fernandez, 6-4, 6-0.
In doubles action, senior captain Carli Knezevich (Austin, Texas) and freshman Madison Wolfe (Monument, Colo.) claimed the Zips' sole win with a 6-2 decision over Oakland's Alexandra Whall and Amanda Nilsson.
Shootout action concludes on Sunday, Sept. 24, at 9 a.m. at the UA outdoor tennis courts on campus. If forced indoors, matches will be played at the LaTuchie Tennis Center in Stow.
