AKRON, Ohio – The Akron Zips baseball team received a stellar pitching performance from freshman Jacob Krausher (Vermilion, Ohio) and scattered nine hits including a solo blast by graduate student Nick Arrivo (Ann Arbor, Mich.) en route to a 7-3 win over Shawnee State at Skeeles Field on Tuesday.

Arrivo went 2-for-3 with a walk, RBI and run scored, while senior Jerry Reinhart (Batavia, N.Y.) and freshman Ian Pennington (Springboro, Ohio) collected two hits each. Reinhart had two RBI and a run scored on a 2-for-4 effort, while Pennington plated two runs and scored on a 2-for-4 effort with a walk. Both, Reinhart and Pennington doubled.

On the mound, Krausher used his first collegiate starting appearance for his first win in seven innings of work, allowing one run on three hits with seven strikeouts and two walks against 25 batters.

Krausher walked the first two batters of the game and relinquished two hits as Shawnee State claimed an early 1-0 advantage to start the game. Akron retaliated with two runs as senior Bryant Shellenbarger (Mount Vernon, Ohio) blasted a ground ruled double over the left centerfield fence for a pair of RBI. Shellenbarger plated senior Tate Wargo (Benld, Ill.) and Pennington after Wargo led-off the game with a walk and Pennington laced a ball to right field for the game's first hit.

Krausher settled in and threw five consecutive no-hit innings without allowing a base runner. In the sixth inning, a comeback shot to the mound rattled off his glove for the Bears third hit of the day. Krausher retired the next three batters. In the bottom half of the inning, Arrivo cleared the playing surface to give Akron a 3-1 lead and the Zips added a pair of runs in the seventh for a four-run advantage. Pennington drove in the both runs on a double to right center.

The Bears scored two runs with two outs in the eighth inning on a pair of doubles mixed with a single to cut the Zips lead to 5-3. The Zips answered with two runs in the bottom of the eighth as graduate student Jackson Haas (Cincinnati, Ohio) reached on a Bears' fielding error which ignited a Zips' two-out rally. Graduate student Justin Barr (Pensacola, Fla.) and Reinhart blasted back-to-back doubles as Barr made his season debut. Reinhart plated both runs, and Akron regained the four-run advantage, 7-3.

The Zips will travel to Bowling Green for a weekend #MACtion series against the Falcons on Friday through Sunday, April 1-3. Friday's game one is slated for a 3 p.m. first pitch followed by a noon doubleheader on Saturday and a noon series finale start on Sunday.
